The Beers of Holy City Brewing

Charleston Ale Trail: Holy City Brewing

Pluff Mud Porter

Porter - American
ABV: 5.5 | IBU: 21
Rating Score: 3.771 / 5.0
Total Ratings: 20,521

Pluff mud [pl?ff-m?d], noun, A mixture of dirt and water indigenous to the marshes of the South Carolina Lowcountry, with a distinct odor that’s endearing to locals, but off-putting to tourists and redcoats. Our second flagship beer was an effort to bring the American Porter style to the Charleston market proper, while also making a beer that stays appealing as the mercury rises. We think we’ve succeeded in Pluff Mud Porter. It presents (and smells) like a classic porter, with subtle chocolate notes and a silky finish, but the medium body and tame ABV keep it refreshing at all times. Enjoy this throughout the year, in or out of the marsh.

Overly Friendly IPA

IPA - American
ABV: 7.6 | IBU: 65
Rating Score: 3.799 / 5.0
Total Ratings: 10,269

We've been told before "people in Charleston are so damn friendly". Sure, we smile, wave, say "hey y'all." and other cute stuff, But our friendliness can be overwhelming to folks that aren't used to it. Same goes for this IPA, whose name came from our intern, Brynn. A double dose of Centennial, Warrior, Chinook, and Cascade in the boil and the dry hop impart a massive citrus nose to the beer, backed up by pale and wheat malts.

Washout Wheat

Pale Wheat Ale - American
ABV: 5.3 | IBU: 10
Rating Score: 3.653 / 5.0
Total Ratings: 9,762

Named for a locally-loved section of Folly Beach, Washout Wheat is an excellent hot weather beer, and our first wheat beer. We checked the overdone spice additions of coriander and orange peel at the door, and instead let the wheat and the yeast work their respective magic. The notes of banana and clove come entirely from that magic, not from any additional ingredients. The end result is a no frills wheat experience, one that quenches your thirst with no extra hang-ups.

Chucktown Follicle Brown

Brown Ale - American
ABV: 6.8 | IBU: 35
Rating Score: 3.538 / 5.0
Total Ratings: 7,620

This hairy beast is a brown ale hopped with Nugget and Amarillo hops. A smooth mouthfeel is followed by a bitter bite, both riding under a citrus aroma that is sure to smell great through your momma's lip hair.

Holy City Pilsner

Pilsner - Czech
ABV: 5 | IBU: 45
Rating Score: 3.436 / 5.0
Total Ratings: 4,037

The first flagship beer in the Holy City arsenal is our version of a traditional Bohemian-style Pilsner, with significantly amped-up hops, imparting a wonderfully sharp bite to what’s already a dry, crisp affair. This beer will quench your thirst and please your palate all in one glass…but we bet you’ll want a second.

This bourbon barrel aged Belgian brown from Munkle Brewing is one of the best beers I’ve had in Charleston in a while! The bourbon flavor comes through perfectly - not overpowering but not too subtle. Pair that with a just-in soft shell crab @purlieucharleston (fantastic!), add chocolate cake, and call it a night! #westsidechs #chsbeer #eatchs #chsaletrail
