You know spring has arrived when you find yourself at Patriot’s Point carrying your sampling glass around to over 30 different breweries at the Charleston Beer Garden. All of these breweries are at the least local-ish, with 15 participating breweries coming from the Lowcountry and the rest from North Carolina and Tennessee. You know that you may have sampled just the right amount of brews when you decide to participate in the Pony Hops competition, a race in which you bounce down the track on an inflatable horse. Also available are a cornhole tournament, arm wrestling matches, a keg tossing competition and over a dozen food trucks!
Tickets: $30, $60 VIP
If you’re going to do one beer festival in Charleston this summer, this is it. There’s over 100 local beers (and a smattering of regional and national brews), food trucks, local artisans, live music, and general feeling of awesomeness as you sample the best Charleston has to offer. The Joe does a good job of limiting ticket numbers so that the lines aren’t too long for your beer samples (18 x 5 oz. pours per person!) and local breweries always do a great job of bringing their best beers for you to try.
Tickets vary (50+ different events)
Charleston Beer Week is the most sacred of all of the weeks on the Charleston beer calendar. There are innumerable beer releases, an incredible number of beer dinners where local breweries collaborate with local chefs to bring you meals that will have you dreaming of more, music events, fundraisers, and so much more. The calendar for this event won’t be out until later in the summer, but you can rest assured that the Ale Trail will keep you up to date on the events as they are announced. With so many events there is truly something for everyone.
